Today

  1. LOOK at the 1st OT Illustration: The Israelites and their Judgment.
  2. LISTEN to God speak concentrating on the LEARN/LIVE Questions.

How are the ungodly like the Israelites that God brought out of Egypt?

Am I like the Israelites, professing to believe but refusing to obey the Lord?

This is the most critical skill to learn in order to see God’s Word accurately!

Focus on

Jude 1:5

 Read Verse 5

Asking the who, what, where, when, why and how questions.

1. What did the readers know that Jude wanted to remind them?

2. Who is the 1st group that Jude compares the ungodly to?

3. What did the Lord do 1st?

4. Then what did the Lord do? Why?

THINK: How does this illustration parallel with what Jude is trying to tell us about these certain persons and their judgment?

What would be Key?

Wouldn’t it be the Israelites and ‘not believe’?

Remember: GODcha pointed us to ‘condemnation’ (judgment) back in verse 4, thus we might eye ‘destroyed’.

Let’s LOOK At

Israelites Not Believe  –>Key

Do you know what believe means to understand what not believe means?

Just a touch of your finger!

BELIEVEpisteúō; From pístis (4102), faith. To have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), (especially one’s spiritual  To believe, have faith in, trust. (I) Particularly, to be firmly persuaded as to something, hence to place confidence in.

NOT BELIEVE, is not to be firmly persuaded to place confidence in God, Jesus, The Word!

Just a side note for you all to know!

Believe and Faith come from the same Greek root word.

Faith is a noun, and

Believe is a verb.

To believe is to have faith!

I want to give you the definition I learned years ago, that comes from the Vine’s Bible Dictionary showing that belief is so much more than an intellectual assent.

The Vine’s Bible Dictionary tells us that:

there are 3 main elements in faith in relation to the invisible God, as distinct from faith in man and are especially brought out in the use of this noun and corresponding verb.”

1. “firm conviction producing a full acknowledgment of God’s revelation of truth. e.g. (2Th 2:11-12) “

Firm Convictionof who God and Jesus are, and who and what I am, a sinner in need of a Savior;

2. “a personal surrender (a total abandonment to God), (Joh 1:12)”

an Absolute Total Surrender – Commitment: to Jesus as Lord and Savior.

3. “a conduct inspired by such a surrender, (2Co 5:7).”

Conduct:that gives evidence to one’s conviction and commitment.

Believe (Faith) is:

Conviction,

Commitment,

Conduct!

Understand: True faith not only believes, it behaves!

Understand: To believe is more than an intellectual assent!

I want to encourage you to memorize these 3 C’s so you can share with others, as the Lord would lead.

So not to believe is:

to not have a firm conviction that one is a sinner, or convinced that Jesus is God in the flesh,

thus, there obviously is no commitment, and

there certainly is not a conduct that results in true belief.

DESTROYEDapóllum; to destroy fully —destroy, die, perish. Spoken of physical death – Jude 5.

What Did You LEARN

THINK about what God just revealed to you!

Contemplate GODcha’s #5 LEARN Questions.

5. Jude reminded the beloved of 3 OT illustrations to understand the ungodly and their judgment.

What do you learn from the 1st illustration?

How are the ungodly like the Israelites that God brought out of Egypt?

What was the end for these Israelites? (v5)

THINK:

1. How had ‘these people‘ seen the power of God?

2. So close to the promised land, but what did they do?

3. What is the fate of those who don’t really believe in the Son and trust the Lord?

Understand

There is a misconception in the body of Christ today.

The Children of Israel brought out of Egypt is a picture of salvation.

So many conclude that all came out of Egypt saved. Thus, use this as an excuse for bad behavior and immorality.

BUT

God says otherwise.

See: Jude is reminding his readers that a multitude experienced and witnessed the power of God.

BUT. . .

There were only 4 out of the multitude that trusted God.

The rest grumbled and complained against their chosen leader Moses.

Thus, they were grumbling against the Lord.

Israel rebelled against the Lord and feared the people of the land.

This all equates to not believing God.

Thus, there were consequences, judgment.

That judgment was destruction.

The ungodly like the Israelites:

Use grace as a license to sin (grumbled against their leader, feared, did not believe) and

Denied the Lord (rebelled against the Lord).

Their end: Judgment

What might God be saying, asking you personally?

The Spirit might be asking . . .

Do I know and remember the incredible series of miracles in delivering the Children of Israel out of Egypt?

How have I personally witnessed the power of God?

Am I guilty of grumbling and complaining against those chosen over me, which is actually then grumbling against the Lord?

How am I rebelling against the Lord?

Why am I fearful, not trusting the Lord?

How am I putting the Lord to the test?

Why am I not listening to Him?

What consequences have I experienced for grumbling and not listening – for not believing?

  2. Those inside the church who are ungodly and false;

Let’s Bow Before the Father

Perhaps. . .

FATHER GOD, again I thank you for guarding Your Word of Truth and showing us these people who have crept into the church. Thank you for loving us enough to bring this warning to all of us, so we would understand Your heart, Your will and Your ways. Thank you for bringing to our recall this OT illustration about Israel, Your chosen people, the Jews, to deepen our understanding about these ungodly men and their judgment. How sad to be so close, and yet not have the faith to enter Your rest of salvation. Help us to see the percentage of the 12 spies – 10 didn’t have the faith, and only 2 who spied the land, Joshua and Caleb, believed and trusted in You. Oh Father, may we STOP and think about the percentage of those sitting in the pews who are like this. Help us to see how You view anyone who has some knowledge of the Truth, shows an interest, professes to believe but deserts the faith. Help us to grasp hold of that fact that it doesn’t matter who it is, they will be destroyed. I so pray the veil is being removed from our eyes. And if any are on this journey who You, Holy Spirit, are convicting, may they agree with You that they are sinners in need of a Savior, be willing to turn from their sins, and truly believe in You, Lord Jesus, the Son of God, who died, but was raised from the dead! Oh please move upon hearts in order that many will escape being destroyed. We ask these things in Your name, Lord Jesus. Amen!

We love you and want to encourage you to keep pressing forward!
